Beatbook Privacy Policy

The short version

Beatbook is a beatboxing loop station. There's no account and no sign-in. Every sound you record stays on your phone unless you explicitly choose to share a loop. We collect two small, specific things beyond that: an optional support message if you write to us, and anonymous usage counters that tell us which parts of the app people actually reach. That's the whole story — the rest of this page spells it out precisely.

Microphone recordings and your loops

Beatbook uses your microphone so you can record pad sounds and loops. Everything you record — pad samples, layers, your whole board — is stored only in the app's local storage on your device. We never upload it, and we have no server that could receive it even if we wanted to.

The one exception is entirely your choice: if you tap "share a loop," Beatbook renders your loop to an audio file and hands it to iOS's own share sheet, so you can send it wherever you decide — Messages, Mail, another app. That's you sharing your own file with a destination you pick; we don't see it and don't receive a copy.

Sending us feedback

If you use the "send feedback" form, we receive the message you type, plus your name and email address if you choose to include them (both are optional — you can send feedback with just a message). This is delivered through Web3Forms, a third-party form-relay service, straight to our inbox. We use it only to read, respond to, and act on what you tell us — never for marketing, and never combined with any other data we collect.

Your app version, iOS version, and device model ride along automatically with a feedback submission, so a bug report is easier for us to act on. These are details about the installation, not about you personally.

Anonymous usage analytics

Beatbook records a small, fixed set of one-time usage milestones — things like "first recording made" or "first loop shared" — to help us understand which parts of the app people actually use. Each milestone fires at most once per install. There are ten of them, and that list doesn't grow without this policy being updated.

Every milestone event carries a fixed, allow-listed set of fields: the milestone name, a per-install identifier, a timestamp, the app version, the build number, the major iOS version, and a coarse device family (e.g. "iPhone") — plus an identifier for the app itself and a marker that keeps our own development-build traffic out of the real usage statistics. Nothing else is attached — no names, no email addresses, no precise location, no advertising identifiers, no recordings, no waveforms, no pad or tape names, and no free-text of any kind. This is enforced in the code itself, not just in policy: there is no free-form field for extra data to ride in on.

The per-install identifier is a random ID generated on your device when you first open the app. Before it's ever sent anywhere, we hash it with SHA-256 on your device — what we transmit is that hash, not the raw ID. We can't reverse it to identify you, and it is never linked to your name, your email, or anything you send us through the feedback form. It resets if you delete and reinstall the app.

This data is sent to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics processor, over an encrypted HTTPS connection. TelemetryDeck states that it does not store IP addresses in its database or logs. We don't use analytics for advertising, we don't sell this data, and we don't share it with data brokers or use it to track you across other apps or websites.

Retention: we don't promise a fixed deletion window for this anonymous usage data. Because the data is minimal and carries no personal information by design, we retain it for as long as it's useful for understanding how Beatbook is used.

What we don't do

• We don't sell your data, to anyone, ever.
• We don't run ads or use advertising identifiers.
• We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
• We don't build a profile of you, and we don't have an account system to attach one to.
• We don't access your contacts, photo library, calendar, or location.

Third-party services we use

Beatbook has no third-party SDKs embedded in the app. Two outside services process the data described above on our behalf:

• Web3Forms — relays feedback-form submissions to our inbox.
• TelemetryDeck — receives anonymous usage milestone events.

Neither service receives your recordings, and the two data paths are kept structurally separate — your feedback identity (if you give us one) is never joined to the anonymous analytics identifier.

Children's privacy

Beatbook isn't directed at children, and we have no reason to believe children's personal information is collected beyond the same anonymous, unidentifiable usage milestones described above, which apply equally to every installation regardless of who's using it.

Your choices

You never have to send feedback or a name/email to use Beatbook — every field beyond the message itself is optional. If you'd like us to delete a feedback submission you sent, or you have any question about this policy or what data we hold, contact us at samjl45@gmail.com.

Changes to this policy

If how Beatbook handles data changes, we'll update this page and revise the effective date above. We'll keep the practical, specific tone of this version rather than replacing it with boilerplate.
